BBQ site plan is expanded

A PROJECT that saw official barbecue sites set up on the Meadows is to be expanded.

The slabbed areas were launched on the park in May, followed by a series of signs a month later urging people to use the slabs and not to place barbecues directly on the grass.

It was found that the number of burnt patches of grass more than halved, to 78, as a result.

The pilot project is to now be extended for another year before it is decided whether to roll it out at other parks. Councillor Paul Godzik said: "The introduction of barbecue slabs has helped reduce damage."
