Barge will keep ferry sailing

A FLOATING pier is being used to minimise disruptions to a lifeline ferry service while emergency repairs are carried out to a slipway.

The Corran Ferry provides a link from Nether Lochaber, near the A82 Fort William-Oban road, to remote Ardnamurchan and Morverncommunities.

A large barge, which will act as a temporary floating pier, is expected to arrive on site between 27 September and 1 October.

The ferry may be interrupted for up to six hours while the barge is manoeuvred into position. It will then be ballasted and adapted to integrate with the MV Maid of Glencoul, which will replace the larger MV Corran.
