Band pipes up to support orphans with cash from gig

BAGPIPE band the Red Hot Chilli Pipers have donated the proceeds of a concert to an Edinburgh charity.

The band gave profits of 5000 to Cherish Watoto Kenya, a charity based in the Capital that provides resources for Cheryl's Children's Home and School for orphans in Nairobi.

They were introduced to the charity by John Sturrock, chief executive of Edinburgh-based mediation business Core Solutions Group, which also donated money from its tenth anniversary celebrations, which included a performance by the Chilli Pipers.

Red Hot Chilli Piper Kevin MacDonald said: "We sometimes just don't know how other kids are living. This is a way of trying to better the lives of these children in Kenya, to give them an education and a chance in life.

"In the Edinburgh area, there is affluence everywhere and we take things for granted. This money should help ensure these kids get the best chances they can."
