Balmedie beach swim victim named

THE swimmer who died at the weekend after being rescued from the North Sea on the Aberdeenshire coast was named today.

The 26 year-old woman, named as Amy Li, got into difficulties near Balmedie beach early on Sunday night.

Members of the public rescued her from the sea and she was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she later died.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said today: “Police Scotland can confirm that the 26 year-old woman who died after being rescued from the sea near Balmedie beach at the weekend has been named as Amy Li.

The incident occurred at about 6.45pm on Sunday.

“Police are continuing to make enquiries and would appeal for any witnesses to come forward. Anybody with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
