Ballot over rail pay row

RAIL staff working on the East Coast Mainline are to be balloted for industrial action in a row over pay.

The RMT union said it would begin balloting on Tuesday following the introduction of automated ticket barriers which have seen guards lose out on commission from the collection of on-board fares.

The union said bosses at government-run East Coast had failed to come up with an "acceptable package" to compensate guards.
