Badger destruction plans slammed by MP

A WEST Lothian MP has slammed the Westminster government’s plans for a “misguided” cull of badgers.

This week it was decided that the proposed cull, which was due to take place in the south of England to curb bovine tuberculosis in cattle, would be delayed until next year.

But Livingston MP Graeme Morrice this week voted for a House of Commons motion calling on the government to stop its plans to cull badgers altogether. He said: “We have been warning the government for two years that the badger cull was bad for farmers, bad for taxpayers and bad for
wildlife.

“Its misguided approach to the issue ignores the scientific evidence and would result in the needless mass destruction of these much-loved animals.

“I was pleased to vote against the cull plans and will continue to press the government to rethink its policy.”
