Awards offer good VIBES to businesses

THE countdown is on for Lothian firms hoping to vie for the crown of Scotland's greenest company.

Businesses eager to bid for the accolade must enter the 2010 Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) competition before its 9 July deadline. An awards ceremony will be held in December to honour the winners.

Now in its 11th year, VIBES is the longest-running green business awards scheme in Scotland. It aims to recognise firms of all sizes and sectors employing environmental best practice in their daily routines.

VIBES chair Alan Farquhar said: "More and more businesses are becoming aware of the need to be environmentally friendly, and VIBES is the perfect opportunity to reward firms for their commitment to the cause."

There are six categories for the 2010 awards: Management, Product, Service, Process, Best Micro: Company and Special Award for Energy Efficiency. Entries are assessed on the application form and a site visit.

Edinburgh-based tour company Rabbie's Trail Burners scooped the Best Management Award in 2009.
