Austria: 160 rescued from ski resort chairlift

EMERGENCY crews in Austria used helicopters to rescue about 160 skiers and snowboarders stuck on a broken chairlift.

Most were winched to the ground, but 17 had to be attached by cables to helicopters because of the rugged terrain below them. The crews were called to the Gruenau-Kaesberg ski area on Wednesday after a chairlift lurched to a stop.
