Audit aims to protect at risk

AN internal audit launched by health chiefs is aiming to protect vulnerable adults in the city from harm.

NHS Lothian said the findings from the Adult Support and Protection initiative would help people in the Capital with a range of learning disabilities and social disadvantages.

It is hoped the work will lead to vulnerable individuals being identified earlier, cases being handled more effectively, and the flow of information with organisations such as the police and social work being improved.

The health board's nurse director Melanie Hornett said: "We have made real progress over the last year to ensure systems are in place.

"We aim to make it as easy as possible for staff to recognise those who may be at risk of harm, and for the correct reporting to occur."
