Auction pulls in over £4000 for Michael

A FUNDRAISING auction for a soldier whose legs were blown off by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan has netted more than £4,000.

In July, Sergeant Michael Yule, 31, was on patrol in Helmand when he stepped on an explosive device.

As well as losing both legs, he suffered internal injuries, a broken pelvis and arm, and damaged his other arm and hand.

Last month, Evening News reader Jim Cunningham was so moved by the tale that he resolved to help and set about organising a charity auction.

Hosted in the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club, more than 200 guests bid on lots including a signed Frank Bruno glove and a Mercedes for a weekend.

A charity dinner in honour of Mr Yule will take place on October 17, also at the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club.
