Attack victim left with facial injuries

A WOMAN was left with serious facial injuries after a "vicious and unprovoked" assault, police said today.

The 25-year-old was inside her flat in the Niddrie area of Edinburgh around 3am on Saturday when she heard a group of men and women arguing in the street.

The group then entered the victim's block and knocked on her door. After answering and telling them to leave, she was punched and kicked several times by one of the women in the group.

The victim was taken to Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary, suffering fractures to her cheek and jaw.

The suspect is described as white, in her late 20s, 5ft 9in in height, with "droopy" facial features, a thin build and short dyed ginger frizzy hair.

A police spokesman said: "This was a vicious and entirely unprovoked assault which left the victim with serious facial injuries, and we are appealing for help in tracing the culprit.

"Anyone who saw a group of men and women arguing in Niddrie House Park in the early hours of Saturday morning, who has any information that can help our inquiries, should contact police immediately.

"Similarly anyone who recognises the description of the suspect should also get in touch."
