Assemble for history project

THE history of the Assembly Rooms is being recorded as part of a project to celebrate the refurbishment of the 200-year-old building.

Volunteers are being sought for oral history sessions, exploring memories of the venue and recording the stories of people associated with it.

The Assembly Rooms was built between 1783 and 1787 to provide a place of entertainment for the wealthy residents of the New Town. The current 18-month refurbishment is intended to restore the building to its original grandeur.
