Assault on council leader investigated

Police are investigating claims that a city council leader was assaulted in a pub.

Aberdeen City Council leader John Stewart was the victim of an alleged attack close to the authority's headquarters on Thursday night. The incident is said to have taken place in the Kirkgate bar at around 9pm.

A Grampian Police spokesman said the force was investigating the reports.

Mr Stewart said: "The matter is with the police and I will be making no comment."
