Asda lodges plans for petrol station at Leith superstore

PLANS for a petrol station at the Asda Leith superstore have been lodged with city officials.

It is understood that the station is bidding to stay open 24 hours a day and will cover an area of 2520 square metres.

The superstore at Western Harbour was officially opened in November 2008. It formed part of the regeneration of Edinburgh’s Waterfront project by ports and property group Forth Ports. The “European style” Asda supermarket, in Sandpiper Drive, uses heat from its on-site bakery to warm storage areas.

It was officially opened by community stalwart Susan Robertson, who was nominated as Leith’s local hero because of her previous work as a teacher and also for the role she played in assisting firemen with teaching fire safety to local
schoolchildren.
