Asda awards community centre £20k

THE Asda Foundation has awarded Broomhouse Community Centre nearly £20,000 to refurbish the popular site.

Local employees at the Chesser superstore have been involved in the allocation of the funds, which will allow volunteers to install and expand a new kitchen to teach cooking and cater for visitors.

Linda Anderson, events co-ordinator at the Asda store, said: "The community centre staff have been campaigning for some time for funding.

"It's brilliant news for the centre. With this they will be able to use the kitchen areas for the community activities, which they are very active in.

"Asda is keen to support the local communities it serves and we wish the centre all the best."

The Chesser store has also raised 5,000 since the start of this year towards Tickled Pink, which is run by Linda and helps to improve the lives of people with breast cancer.

She added: "We've got everyone in the store to take part in some way in fundraising and we're proud to have raised 5,000 in just a few months. There'll be lots more to come."
