Arthur's abseiling raises £3000 for cancer support

A TERMINAL cancer patient has raised more than £3000 for support services with a series of daring abseils.

Arthur Johnson embarked on his latest abseil at the Barns Ness lighthouse in East Lothian earlier this month, boosting his total fundraising efforts.

Despite the spread of cancer and subsequent impact on his physical capability, the Muirhouse 56-year-old has taken on as many activities as possible to help charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support.

He said that the spread has been "quite vigorous" and that consultants think he has "a few weeks or months" to live, but has taken the news in tremendous spirit and outlined his determination to keep active.

He told the Evening News: "It has been a great journey this past year.

"I've now done my fifth abseil and have received money from friends who have held things like pub quizzes and other little events. They are a brilliant bunch."
