Art is sign of pub recovery

AFTER rising from the ashes following a fire in May, The Phoenix bar has appointed a popular surrealist painter to create a replacement for the Broughton Street pub's sign.

Tom Neil, who has sold work to collectors in Europe, Canada, Australia and America, created the image of the colourful mythical bird to replace the damaged sign above the door.

Tom said: "With a phoenix you can never go wrong because it doesn't exist, so I just made it as colourful and striking as I could."
