Around Town: Talk from creators of graphic novel

WRITER Martin Conaghan and artist Will Pickering will talk about their bestselling graphic novel Burke & Hare at Blackwell bookshop on South Bridge on August 14.

The event will be an interactive workshop following the medium from story conception through script development to artwork. The event, which runs from 2pm until 4pm is free but ticketed.

THE Art's Complex gallery in London Road is hosting three exhibitions.

Young artists' group Perennial Art presents A Drawback, looking at traditional drawing, abstract painter and printmaker Ian Reddie presents Dirt, Grit, Gluedust, and newly-graduated students from Edinburgh College of Art are exploring contemporary drawing and painting. They run from August 7 until September 5.

All are welcome at care home's summer fayre

Bupa's Victoria Manor Care Home is holding its summer fayre on Saturday at 2pm.

Attractions will include a cake stall, a craft stall, raffle, tombola, refreshments and music. The community is invited to attend.

Sue Donaldson, home manager, said: "This is a lovely event for our residents, their relatives and the local community to come and enjoy the fun. We have a host of attractions on the day and everyone is really looking forward to the event."

250 donation to lifeboat team

Alexander Easton Funeral Directors in Bonnybridge has donated 250 to Dunbar RNLI to part fund the purchase of fast water rescue equipment.

The East Lothian lifeboat team now has a number of volunteers trained to perform rescues in rivers or flood water.

Join in ceilidh fun for NSPCC

A FUNDRAISING ceilidh for the NSPCC will be held at the Counting House in West Nicolson Street on September 8.

Gallery to host three exhibitions

ARTIST Sharon Quigley is to host a free four-day art workshop for 13 to 17-year-olds in Portobello.
