Around town: Stove firm gets fired up for city move

A NEW wood-burning stove showroom is set to open in the Capital.

Inverness company Bonk & Co announced last month that it was looking to expand into Edinburgh and has now revealed that the new showroom will be in Abbeyhill Industrial Estate.

Alex, 22, whose father Andrew is Bonk's managing director, said: "We have a lot of work ahead to transform the place into a showroom worthy of our range of luxury wood-burning stoves.

"However, things are moving very well."

Church to host compassionate living event

The Compassionate Living Fayre will be held at Augustine's United Church on George IV Bridge on Saturday from 10.30am.

The event brings together organisations campaigning for animal rights, human rights and the environment. There will be free vegan food, and stalls offering ethical goods and activities. It will also see the launch of the Compassionate Living Guide Edinburgh 2010.

Author signs up for a visit

AUTHOR Armistead Maupin will sign copies of his new novel, Mary Ann In Autumn, at Waterstones West End on November 25.

The book is a sequel to the 2007 The Tales of the City follow-up, Michael Tolliver Lives. The signing begins at 12.30pm. For more information call 0131-226 2666.

Power to the people at play

Snow media lecture is big news

NEWSREADER Jon Snow will discuss the future of the media during a talk in Edinburgh tonight.

The veteran Channel 4 presenter will speak at Edinburgh University as part of its Enlightenment lecture series. The talk begins at 6pm.

Everything all-white at infamous orange shop

IT seems like it's changed colour more often than a traffic light but now Edinburgh's infamous orange shop has gone back to neutral white.

Owner Vincent Crolla irked councillors when he painted his factory outlet store on Slateford Road orange, and was ordered to repaint it with a more sympathetic colour.

He then let it to a costume shop which painted it red and green, but tenant Abid Malik has now repainted it white following a raft of new objections.
