Around town: Machine gift would be sew good for us

A Craigmillar Community ArtSpace group is appealing for the donation of a sewing machine so that it may continue its Knit, Stitch and Natter group.

The club, on Harewood Drive, is for men and women of all ages and capabilities, takes place every Tuesday morning from 10am-noon.

It is looking for a sewing machine or two to aid the creations of some of the elderly and disabled members who have a problem with arthritis.

THRILL-seekers are being sought to take part in a charity zip slide in aid of a leukaemia charity.

The Scottish Mining Museum has teamed up with Anthony Nolan to organise the Lady Victoria Zip Line fundraising challenge, which will take place on August 29 during the museum's family fun day.

Noodle bar 'popular with ladies' set to open

THE former Costcutter on South Bridge is set to be transformed into a noodle bar.

Tokyou, which already has a well-established restaurant in Liverpool, has applied for change of use to turn the former convenience store into a new Edinburgh branch,

Speaking on his Liverpool store, owner Zhu Jianping said: "Lots of ladies come in because everything is fresh.

"We buy all our seafood fresh each day and give free green tea which we buy from a farmer in the mountains of China."

Bolton arranges Capital date

ACCLAIMED singer-songwriter Michael Bolton is heading to the Capital later this year.

Centre holds family event

SEAFIELD Community Recycling Centre will open its doors on August 21 for a Family Day and education event.

Guided tours of the centre in Fillyside Road will be on offer, and there will be competitions for all the family.

Rare works go on display

An exhibition of work by Edinburgh artist Edwin G Lucas will be on show in his home city until Sunday.

Some of the paintings on display in the Gladstone Gallery, Lawnmarket, have not been seen publicly for nearly 60 years. Lucas was considered to be in his prime between the 1930s and 1950s.

Lord Provost George Grubb marked the achievements of Currie RFC at a civic reception for the club.

Get painting a Porty picture

BUDDING artists will get the chance to paint one of Edinburgh's best-loved spots at a workshop taking place tomorrow.
