Around town: Conference to help web ideas click

AN interactive conference aimed at helping people create online businesses has been launched by the University of Edinburgh Business School.

Launch48, hosted by the Business School, LAUNCH.ed and PayPal, will help participants create viable online businesses using the web or mobile apps in just 48 hours.

The Launch48 Weekend starts on October 29 with a mini conference followed by the weekend event where participants select, build, and launch web or mobile apps.

NORTH Edinburgh Arts will be taking part in drawing event, The Big Draw on October 23.

The centre in Pennywell Court will run a range of activities from 10am to 2.30pm, including graffiti workshops, paint and play for the under-fives, and animation screenings. For details call 0131-315 2151.

A CEILIDH is set to be held tonight at The Royal Medical Society in support of WaterAid.

The event - one of 85 around the country tonight - is set to be held at the Royal Medical Society building, Bristo Square, from 8pm.

The charity works to improve access to safe water and sanitation.

Festival gala evening has a story to tell

THE Scottish International Storytelling Festival will get under way with a special evening gala performance next week.

Naturally Inspired: Festival Gala at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in High Street will feature stories, music, movement and songs inspired by Scotland's landscapes.

The event takes place next Friday from 7pm. Tickets cost 10 or 8 for concessions.

A-peeling plans for Apple Day

BRITISH Apple Day will be marked by Craigie's Farm Deli and Cafe in South Queensferry over next weekend.

The weekend will include a longest apple peel competition, recipe suggestions and a Hallowe'en-themed quiz on the cafe's nature walk.

Pharmacy unveils new-look store at Gyle

PHARMACY chain Boots was today set to unveil the final stage of its expanded store at the Gyle.

It has nearly tripled the size of the Gyle Shopping Centre unit, with the final phase of the development due to be completed today.

It will include its first self-service checkout area in Edinburgh and a new beauty hall featuring the top designer brands.

General manager Bal Sagoo said: "The extended store will enable us to offer a fantastic shopping experience, along with a wider range of products and services."
