Around the world in… a fire engine

A GROUP of charity "firefighters" are on the brink of entering the record books by circumnavigating the globe in a fire engine.

The 25-strong team have worked in shifts to clock up around 30,000 miles travelling around the world.

Today, the Follow That Fire Engine team hopes to cross the finishing line in Greenwich, London, from where they departed last July.

On arrival they will be in line for the Guinness World Record title, "Longest journey by fire engine".

The global mission, which has covered 28 countries, has been led by Steve Moore, 33, from Wimbledon, who has dedicated the trip to his father, firefighter Garth Moore, who died of lung cancer aged 63.

Moore said: "We've covered gruelling terrain in Mongolia, Russia and Kazakhstan, faced the rainy season in Thailand and Laos, the height of summer in Australia and snow in the USA."
