Army brings recruitment drive to city

THE army is taking to the streets as part of a major new recruitment drive in the Capital.

Servicemen and women from several battalions of the Royal Regiment of Scotland will be giving the public the chance to find out more about a career in the army.

They made their presence felt from yesterday morning by parking a 25-tonne Warrior armoured fighting vehicle on Castle Street and allowing passers-by to experience one of the most versatile vehicles used in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Among those speaking to young army hopefuls until Saturday is Lance Bombardier Jonathon Trolio of the Royal Artillary.

The 26-year-old, from Stockbridge, joined the army six years ago. He said: "Joining the army is not just about being a soldier – it's about gaining new life skills in a steady and rewarding environment."

"There are many trades on offer and lots of jobs ranging from communications engineer to army chef and infantry soldier. Depending on age, education and skills, the army also provides excellent programmes of further education and offers grants and financial sponsorship."
