Armed robber hunt after raid on bookies

POLICE in Glasgow are hunting an armed robber after a raid on a bookmakers.

The man entered the William Hill branch on Maryhill Road with what appeared to be a firearm about 9.25pm on Friday.

He threatened four members of staff with the weapon and demanded they hand over money.

He then fled the shop with a four-figure sum of cash and was seen running from Maryhill Road into nearby Clarendon Street.

Police say the weapon was not fired during the incident and that the staff were not injured but left extremely shaken.

The suspect is described as white, about 30, 5ft 11in, of thin build and was wearing a grey hooded top, dark jogging bottoms and white training shoes.

Detective Constable Iain Wilson urged anyone who may have seen the suspect hanging around outside the bookmakers prior to the robbery afterwards to contact Strathclyde Police or Crimestoppers.
