Armed man 'wanted to murder dad'

A MAN told police officers he wanted to kill his dad after he was arrested for breaking his door down, a court has heard.

Neighbours spotted Ross Stainsby, 29, repeatedly banging on his 67-year-old father Arthur Stainsby's door.

Fiscal depute Gerard Drugan told Edinburgh Sheriff Court: "He shouted that he would break the door down. He was banging on the door violently and the door actually split."

Police were contacted but by this time Stainsby had fled. Officers later caught up with him and found he had a knife. Stainsby was detained and on the way to the police station he repeatedly stated he had intentions to kill his father.

Stainsby, of Edinburgh Prison, admitted breaching the peace on July 13 this year at Crewe Grove, Edinburgh, and elsewhere. He also admitted possessing a knife and breaching his bail conditions. Sentence was deferred for reports.
