Archers aim high in hope to win trophy

THE Royal Company of Archers competed for the Silver Arrow in the Meadows yesterday.

Members of the Company, who form the Queen's ceremonial bodyguards in Scotland, compete for the centuries-old archery trophy every year.

The contest, which is only open to members of the Royal Company, is believed to date back to 1603. The archers shoot over a distance of 180 yards, aiming to hit two targets, or "clouts".
