WILDCARD

“Wildcard is a news and entertainment experience like no other,” according to the App Store listing for this daily news app. Similar to a few other apps around at the moment, Wildcard aims to bring you breaking news and longer reads tailored to short lunches or long commutes. It has lots of competition in the personalised news sector – not least from the newly-launched Apple News – but it’s well designed and promises editorial curation, which is promising.

STORYWARS

The idea behind Storywars is to get strangers to write a story together. The app introduces an element of competition into the process of story writing, pitting budding authors against each other to see whose writing is best. You kick things off with a chapter, then other users submit their drafts for the next one. After a vote, it’s then decided who gets to write the next one, which then spurs a new round of drafts.
