Application to build a hotel

PLANS for a 75-bedroom hotel at Hillend have been put forward to Midlothian Council.

Swanston Farms Ltd has lodged an application for the hotel on land between the existing Esso filling station and the proposed Lothianburn park-and-ride site.

Earlier the council received an application for a ten-bedroom hotel on nearby land.

The latest planning move follows Calderstones Land Ltd's bid to win approval for a 250-bedroom five-star hotel and holiday village in woodland by Midlothian snowsport centre. It would also have 14 apartments, 22 detached lodges and a country club.
