Apple chief Tim Cook in surprise Edinburgh visit

Apple chief executive Tim Cook gave staff and customers at the company’s Princes Street store the surprise of their life by dropping in unannounced earlier this week.

Shop worker Adam Bochor, 23, only realised he was looking at his ultimate boss rather than a lookalike when the 55-year-old, whose wealth is estimated at £500 million, smiled and told him: “Yes, it is.”

Robert Darling, 63, of Dunbar, dropped in for one of the new iPad Pros to find that he was personally handed the purchase by Mr Cook.

He said: “I can’t believe it. I’m a massive Apple fan.

“It feels like Christmas has come early. He was a lovely guy.”

The business leader, who is known within the company for his surprise visits to stores, was making his first visit to Scotland since 1984.

“This was the first country that I visited outside the US, so it has a special place in my heart,” he said.

“I’ve been hearing about the Edinburgh University campus and I’d love to come back and have a look around there.”

Mr Cook said sales of the new iPad Pro have been “absolutely incredible” since their launch on Wednesday.
