Appeal for witnesses to knife attack

DETECTIVES investigating a knife attack at a garage are appealing for information one week on from the crime.

A 51-year-old man was slashed in the face, neck and stomach during the attack on a garage forecourt in Portobello around 12.45pm last Friday.

As the News revealed last week, CCTV from a nearby business showed the suspects fleeing AGS Motor Company Ltd, on Portobello High Street, after the victim was repeatedly slashed just before 1pm.

The pair were chased to the Baileyfield Industrial Estate where they got into a silver BMW saloon and were last seen on Sir Harry Lauder Road.

Today police urged anyone who might have seen the men to get in touch.

Detective Superintendent David Gordon said: “The area would have been quite busy at that time of day.

“We want anyone who was in Portobello High Street or the surrounding area last Friday lunchtime, who noticed the two suspects either walking on the street or within a silver saloon car, to contact police.
