Appeal for witnesses to brutal attack

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an unprovoked assault which left the 22-year-old victim with a fractured skull.

The man was attacked at 3:35am on Saturday outside the Standard Life building on Lothian Road.

He was with friends when a man approached the group and assaulted him, before fleeing along Lothian Road towards Tollcross.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the assault or has information on the attacker to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, with tattoos on both arms and wearing a white T-shirt.

A police spokesman said: "The suspect has approached a group of men who were unknown to him and carried out an unprovoked assault that has left his victim hospitalised with a serious head injury.

"We are eager to speak to anyone who was on Lothian Road at the time of the incident and who may have witnessed anything suspicious and would ask that they contact police immediately.
