Appeal over stolen tree

A THIEF who stole a tree planted in memory of a family's mother has been urged to return it.

Mary Brown died in a car crash in Broxburn in 1959 and her daughter Muriel planted a weeping willow tree to mark the 50th anniversary of her death last year.

However, the tree was dug up in early July and stolen.

Now the 62-year-old has urged the culprit to bring it back so she can replant it.

Muriel, a charity shop worker, said: "I always look out for it when I drive past and I noticed on July 3 that it had gone.

"I'm really upset. It feels the same as having something taken away from you all over again.

"I'm hoping that if the person who stole the tree reads this they will feel guilty about what they did."
