Appeal for racial abuse victim to come forward

Police are appealing for a woman subjected to racist abuse in Edinburgh to come forward.

A member of the public overheard a man verbally abusing a black women and children outside the Co-Op in Bughtlin Market at 2pm on Thursday, January 13.

The person reported the incident to staff in store, saying it was the worst racial abuse she had ever heard in her life. Police are also keen to trace this witness, as she did not leave contact details in store.

The suspect is described as being white, 5ft 8-11ins tall, aged between 25-30-years-old. He was wearing a black baseball hat, tan jacket/fleece, with light-blue jeans and Timberland boots.

A police spokesperson said: "Despite following a positive line of enquiry to trace the suspect, our efforts to identify the victims, and the main witness, have proved unsuccessful.

"We would appeal for anyone else who may have witnessed the incident, or knows who the family involved, to come forward.

"Lothian and Borders Police will not tolerate any form of hate crime."
