Appeal after thieves take MBE during city break-in

THIEVES stole an MBE medal during a break-in at a home in Edinburgh.

Police are appealing for information after the medal was stolen from the house in the Liberton area some time between 10am on Saturday August 21 and 8pm on August 23.

The suspects gained entry to the rear of the property and only stole the medal, which belonged to the elderly occupant's husband.

The MBE was presented to him in 1953 for services in Africa with the Colonial Medical Service and is engraved with his name.

A police spokesman said: "This has been a callous and cold-hearted theft from the home of an elderly woman who is deeply distressed at the loss of her husband's medal.

"These honours are not usually inscribed and so this one is easily recognisable."
