Appeal after man swept into sea at Eyemouth

POLICE searching for a man who was swept into the sea from rocks are appealing for information from anyone who may have seen the incident.

Marek Zoldak, 32, was fishing with a friend when he was knocked into the water by strong waves at around 5.20pm on Sunday just east of Killiedraught Bay, Eyemouth, in the Borders.

His friend managed to scramble to shore and raised the alarm.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with minor injuries and has since been discharged.

A major operation involving the coastguard, RNLI and RAF was launched to search for Mr Zoldak.

Police are now appealing to anyone who was in the area of Killiedraught Bay between 1.30pm and 5.20pm on Sunday and who may have seen this incident to contact them.

Inspector Bryan Burns, said: “An extensive search operation is ongoing and we are working alongside our colleagues in HM Coastguard, the RNLI and the RAF in an effort to trace Marek.

“Killiedraught Bay is a popular destination for fishermen as well as with dog walkers and local holidaymakers and given the mild conditions on Sunday, I am hopeful that a number of people would have noticed the men standing on top of the rocks between 1.30pm and 5.20pm.

“Anyone who remembers seeing the fishermen is asked to contact police on 101.”
