Appeal after cat is abandoned in city centre square

AN “affectionate” black and white cat has been found in a plastic pet carrier in St Andrew Square Garden.

The Scottish SPCA was called to rescue the cat at around 1pm on Tuesday after a member of the public spotted the cat carrier sitting on the ground in the gardens.

Senior Inspector Stuart Murray collected the female cat and took her to the Scottish SPCA’s Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre, where she has been named Andrea.

Senior Inspector Murray said: “A man was sitting eating his lunch in the gardens when he spotted the grey and white cat carrier on the ground.

“In the 40 or so minutes he was there, no-one approached the carrier so he went over to investigate and found Andrea inside.

“We’d like to think that her owner may have stopped for refreshment and simply left the cat behind in error.

“However, it’s also possible that she has been abandoned and if so, then we want to trace the person who did this.

“We’re urging anyone who recognises the cat to call our helpline on 03000 999 999.”
