Anne Redpath sells for £21,000

A PICTURE of boats painted by one of the country's finest women artists, Anne Redpath, fetched more than £21,000 at auction yesterday after a hidden picture of the artist in the nude was discovered on the back.

As reported in the Evening News on Wednesday, the secret image was painted by Redpath's husband, the architect and artist James Michie, when they lived together in the south of France in the late 1920s.

The work was a highlight at Bonhams' Scottish Pictures sale in the Capital where it sold to a private Scottish collector.
