Andy Murray’s brother treated after 40C ordeal

JAMIE Murray became the latest player to fall foul of the extreme heat at the Australian Open after he was treated for heatstroke following his doubles match.

The Scot and his partner John Peers won their tie in straight sets on another day of soaring temperatures in Melbourne, but became unwell after leaving the court.

In the latest incident to raise questions about whether the tournament should be going ahead in such fierce conditions, the 27-year-old received two hours of medical treatment in the locker room following the match.

It comes as temperatures reached a high of 43.3C.

Reflecting on the game, the elder Murray brother said that he was still feeling “a bit lousy” six hours after the match and was struggling to eat anything.

He also suggested that if the tie had gone on to three sets, he may not have been able to continue.

His brother, Andy, said: “He wasn’t in a great way. He was struggling for a good three or four hours after the match.”

It was the first time since 2009 play had been halted at the tournament due to heat.
