Ancient ivories to go on display

CARVED ivories dating back almost 3,000 years, excavated between 1949 and 1963 by archaeologist Sir Max Mallowan, helped by his first wife, novelist Agatha Christie, will go on show next week, after being bought for £1.17 million by the British Museum.

The 6,000 treasures were found in Nimrud, which was once the capital of the Assyrian empire.
