An endurance test on canal

A DOUBLE marathon is to be held along the towpaths of the Forth & Clyde and Union Canals today.

The 55-mile event will see runners arriving at Edinburgh Quay from Glasgow between 3pm and 8pm.

The race was set up last year by archeologist James McMeekin, 31, after he took part in the Marathon des Sables in the Sahara and ran from Edinburgh to London for Children with Leukaemia.

He said: "We've got about 100 people taking part."
