The research, carried out by British Airways, asked 1,000 Americans and 1,000 Britons for their take on different regional accents, with 25 per cent of the Americans surveyed highlighting the Glaswegian tongue as the sexiest.
However, a fifth of US respondents thought it was Scouse.
Cockney came second, picking up 16 per cent of the vote.
Elsewhere, the Geordie accent was rated as ‘most intelligent’, with 36 per cent of Americans enjoying the accent’s pitch shifts.
And there was another victory for Scotland - and Edinburgh - as Americans chose Sir Sean Connery as their favourite ‘British’ accent, ahead of Hugh Grant and Keira Knightley.
The Edinburgh-born actor is well-known for his distinctive accent while London-born pair Grant and Knightley have appeared in numerous Hollywood films.
