American takes on top university position

EDINBURGH University has appointed an American to its most senior non-academic position.

Dr Kim Waldron joins Edinburgh as secretary from Colgate University New York, where she has been secretary of the university since 2003.

She joined Colgate as assistant professor of geology in 1992 and held a range of academic and support roles prior to her appointment as secretary.

She has a PhD in geology from Yale and spent time at Edinburgh University as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from 1990-1992. She will take up her post in August.

Edinburgh University principal, Professor Sir Timothy O'Shea, said: "I was extremely pleased to have such a strong field of candidates for this position."
