Amanda Duffy murder police search man’s home

POLICE investigating the murder of teenage drama student Amanda Duffy 20 years ago have been searching the home of the man who was originally tried for her killing, it was reported last night.

Miss Duffy’s badly mutilated body was found on waste ground in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, in the early hours of 30 May, 1992.

Police said on Wednesday they were reopening the investigation into her murder. Detectives are understood to be carrying out inquiries at Francis Auld’s property in Surrey, in relation to the killing.

Mr Auld was tried for the murder, but in November 1992 the case against him was found “not proven” at the High Court in Glasgow. He had denied murdering the Motherwell College student.

Police last night declined to comment on the latest development.
