All-clear for takeaway in health scare

A CHINESE takeaway restaurant has reopened after being shut down because of health concerns.

Yummy House, on Leith Walk, was ordered to close for one week from June 9 by city council food safety inspectors amid fears of an imminent risk to health.

The council team had discovered evidence of mouse droppings within food containers and on shelves that food was stored on during a routine inspection.

They also found that boxes that had been chewed by mice had been taped back together again and used to store food. There were also holes and gaps in the premises that appeared to indicate evidence of mice activity.

The "hygiene emergency prohibition notice" was served on June 9 and the premises remained closed until June 16, when officers carried out a follow-up check and lifted the notice.

The action of the city council in serving the notice was upheld by Edinburgh Sheriff Court this week. Sheriff Mackie also awarded the city council costs, which are to be met by Yummy Yummy.
