Alison and Rosie are ready to get things started

A CLERK of court and her daughter have been summoned to this year’s Race for Life to sound the starting horn.

Cancer survivor Alison Brown, 48, and 11-year-old Rosie will set the 3400 women off in Holyrood Park before completing the 5k race themselves.

The mum-of-two, from Newington, who was diagnosed with the disease on Hogmanay three years ago, said it was “a real honour”.

She said: “We are both really excited. I didn’t think an ordinary person like me would get to do it but I guess that’s what the race is all about.”

Alison, who underwent four months of chemotherapy, surgery and then two months of radiotherapy, said she couldn’t have done it without the support of her husband, Andrew, son Jamie and Rosie.

She has now thankfully been given the all-clear but plans to continue fundraising for Cancer Research UK by completing the race and baking cupcakes with Rosie to sell.

Mums, daughters, sisters and friends will join the fight against cancer on June 16 in Edinburgh or South Queensferry.
