Alarms show their worth

THE value of smoke alarms has been highlighted by two recent incidents in the Lothians.

On Wednesday, a 70-year-old man was woken up by his smoke alarm after putting chips on to cook and falling asleep at his home in Craigmillar.

He and his 81-year-old neighbour were helped by firefighters.

Fire crews were later called to Globe Park in Broxburn after reports of smoke coming from a property. The alarm was raised when a neighbour's children heard a smoke alarm activating in the unoccupied flat.
