Alarm gesture inspired by News article

A CAMPAIGN to provide personal alarms for women in West Lothian has taken a giant leap forward - thanks to the Evening News.

Following an article about the Miss West Lothian entrants' KISS - Keep It Safe and Sound - campaign to protect other women, Edinburgh company Integrated Monitoring and Maintenance Services came forward to donate 100 alarms to the group.

The company has also provided the girls with another 400 alarms at cost price, which will be paid for by their fundraising.

The girls launched the campaign after being inspired by a personal safety talk given by a police officer during the launch of Miss West Lothian 2012.

The personal safety alarms will be distributed via local nightclubs, community centres and pensioner groups.

Co-organiser of the Miss West Lothian event, Claire Molloy, said: "West Lothian is a safe place to live but there have been a number of incidents recently involving attacks on young women.

"We are extremely grateful to IMMS for their generous gesture."
