Airport revs up for racing on runway

AN EVENT which turns Edinburgh Airport's runway into a racetrack for sports cars is set to take place this summer.

Charity fundraiser Race The Runway sees drivers pay for the privilege of speeding up the tarmac, with organisers hoping to make 50,000 for good causes.

Last year's event raised a combined 16,000 for the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow and Edinburgh's St Columba's Hospice.

Gordon Dewar, managing director of Edinburgh Airport, said: "Last year's event raised a lot of money for charity, whilst giving drivers an unforgettable experience. This year we intend to raise a lot more for charity by making Race the Runway 2010 bigger and better in every way."
