Airport police officer faces community work after raid

A SPECIAL Branch police officer, working at Edinburgh Airport, has been ordered to carry out 140 hours of community service, after admitting being in wilful neglect and violation of his duty.

Greig Anderson, 36, had pleaded guilty previously at the city's Sheriff Court. Sentence was deferred until yesterday for background reports.

The court heard a search warrant was issued relating to Anderson's home in Edinburgh and a number of items were found that he had received in the course of his duty.

The Fiscal said that a former partner of the officer had also contacted the force to tell them he had left five bin bags containing items at her home.

The items recovered included CCTV tapes, aircraft passenger lists, police reports and notebooks, forensic drug reports and cannabis resin and cocaine in evidence bags.

Sheriff Hogg told Anderson there was no doubt his actions had been a breach of trust.
