Airport plans face climate targets probe

CITY leaders are to ask the Scottish Government whether it is to assess the impact that the expansion of Edinburgh Airport will have on climate change policies.

Planning leader Jim Lowrie will ask the government to look at how the expansion will impact the city's ability to meet carbon reduction targets.

It followed comments from Green councillor Steve Burgess at a planning committee meeting yesterday.

Cllr Burgess said: "I'm concerned that the council is being given conflicting directions by the SNP government.

"They can't have it both ways. Do they support endless airport expansion or are they willing to put limits on pollution from more and more flights?"
